My SKY Playhouse, Waiting For Andre, will be broadcast on Thursday January 26th at 10pm on SKY Arts. It stars David Threlfall as Samuel Beckett, Liam Macdonald as Andre The Giant, Vincent Londez as Andre’s Dad and was directed by Ben Palmer. We’re very proud of it and the performances are fantastic. You can read more about the show here -
Unfortunately my other SKY Playhouse, Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon will now not be shown by SKY. I’m sure it will find another home in the future. It would have been preferable for people to see the show and the performances, and have the opportunity to make more informed opinions, but I understand the pressures SKY have been put under.
My SKY Playhouse is shot and will be broadcast at some point over the summer. I’m really proud of it, it was brilliantly directed by Ben Palmer, and look forward to people seeing it. My US pilot script Good People is written, and hopefully there will be more news on that soon. I’m writing pilot scripts for Channel 4 and the BBC. The Channel 4 script is a period comedy and the BBC show is set in Scotland.
The film adaptation of Other People’s Money remains in development (as ever).
Dundee United are confidently closing in on relegation.
I’m writing Good People, my US pilot script for TV Land and DreamWorks Television, and am developing new ideas with Channel 4 and the BBC. My SKY Playhouse is shot and will be broadcast in Feb/March. It’s called Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon and stars Brian Cox, Stockard Channing and Joseph Fiennes. You can read a bit more on it here – http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/sky-preps-michael-jackson-roadtrip-drama/5098366.article

I’m writing a new American pilot script, for a show I sold with Dreamworks to a cable network. It’s an ensemble comedy called Good People. The SKY Playhouse one-off I’ve written is shooting in October and I’m developing a new comedy with the BBC which is a single camera family show.
The new Bob Servant book – Ask Bob – Your Guide to a Wonderful Life – is out on October 8th with Random House and I’m doing two live shows in Scotland around the release, in Glasgow on October 9th and Dundee on October 10th. More details – http://askbob.seetickets.com/tour/bob-servant
Sadly there won’t be any more of the Bob Servant TV show. It would have been nice to have done a final three episodes, and it looked like that was going to be the case, but unfortunately it couldn’t be pulled together. I’m very proud of the two series we made, and glad that I wrote the last series to a bit of a finish in case this happened. Now we must step aside and allow through the new wave of Broughty Ferry-based sitcoms.
New Bob book and theatre date news! Ask Bob – Your Guide to a Wonderful Life will be published by Random House/BBC Books in October. You can read more about it and even pre-order (for a laugh more than anything) right here -
And to celebrate the book’s release I’ll be doing two Scottish theatre dates with Jonathan Watson and others. Tickets are on sale now for -
Friday October 9th, Oran Mor, Glasgow
Saturday October 10th, Gardyne Theatre, Dundee
Tickets available here – http://askbob.seetickets.com/tour/bob-servant
We’re hoping to add a London date soon. More information on all Bob stuff at www.bobservant.com
I’ve written a film adaptation of Other People’s Money, my book about the Scottish fraudster Elliot Castro. It’s for Crabtree Films and has Scottish director Brian Kelly attached. We’re tentatively moving towards production but a long way to go as ever.
And Bob Servant won the Royal Television Society Award for Comedy. A fun night on Scotland’s troubled West Coast.
I’m writing a SKY Playhouse one-off called Road Trip. More details soon, it’s my imagining of something that maybe, but probably didn’t happen. The Production Company is Little Rock Pictures and they’re also developing my novel Let Them Come Through for TV.
The first series of Bob Servant is now on Netflix. Hopefully the second series will join it at some point. Though that shouldn’t in any way dissuade you from buying a DVD of the first series. They’re great things to have around the house and provide a real boost to general morale.
Bob Servant has gone out on BBC1 Scotland and BBC4 and we’re delighted with the response. Lots of lovely reviews, great viewing figures and an entirely manageable level of boo boyery.
I continue to develop a show with NBC. It’s a comedy based around the US Ambassador to the UK and his family and I’m writing a second episode of it now.
I’m very excited to have sold shows to CBS and NBC in the US. I’m writing the pilots now. More details on the NBC one soon, but I’m co-writing the CBS script with Sharon Horgan. More details on that one – http://tinyurl.com/l9a62rf
Bob Servant (note the sensational dropping of ‘Independent’ from the first series) will be transmitted soon. We’ve been bumped up to BBC1 in Scotland and will again go out on BBC4 UK wide. Hopefully firm dates will be released soon, but it should be seen before Xmas.
“Ask Bob” is now in the Scottish Sun on Sunday every week.
Dundee United are top of the league.
My novel’s out in paperwork. Yes, that’s me on the cover. http://tinyurl.com/q3bhryt
Series 2 of Bob Servant is wrapped, we had a great time in beautiful Broughty Ferry. There are behind the scenes photos at www.facebook.com/bobservantindependent the show will go out in Autumn 2014 on BBC4 and BBC2 Scotland.
The first series has been nominated for a Royal Television Society of Scotland Award. My money’s on Limmy.
I’m developing shows in the UK and US, hopefully one of them will become real soon.
Bob Servant returning to TV
I’m delighted to confirm that Bob and Frank will be back on TV this year. We’re shooting a second series (this time called just Bob Servant) in Scotland in May and it will go out sometime in the Autumn, again on BBC4 and BBC2 Scotland. It’s been a bit of a wait, largely because having a brilliant Hollywood star as your lead actor can make timetables tricky, but we’re all looking forward to it.
I’ve pretty much written the episodes. Bob and Frank have recovered from the trauma of the by-election and we find them back to reality. Bob’s version of reality, of course, is somewhat unique. It’s a more thoughtful Bob and a more ambitious Frank, but their ambition remains undimmed.
Once again, Bob Servant has proven that if you knock him down, then he’ll just lie on the ground for ages until you think he’s dead, and then very slowly get back up. I’d like to dedicate this second series to the memory of the recently demolished Derby Street multis in Dundee. They’re in Heaven now, offering accommodation for the Angels. You can see the demolition here (Not Safe For Work).
If you feel it’s the kind of thing you would like to do, you can buy the first series DVD here.
And read about how the show first came about in The Guardian…
Bob Servant Independent has been nominated for a Scottish BAFTA. It’s currently being repeated on BBC2 Scotland on Sunday evenings at 10pm.
I’m developing a show in the US for ABC, working with Amblin TV (DreamWorks), Universal Television and the amazing Jon Pollack (30 Rock, Community and many others). You can read more details here.
I’m also developing a new show here with the BBC and Objective Productions and am recording a Radio 4 pilot in a few months.
There will be a special one-off Bob Servant event in Dundee in December. Details here.
To mark the Bob Servant events in Edinburgh and Dundee here’s an exclusive, Fifty Shades of Bob Servant.
I’ll be appearing at the Edinburgh Book Festival on Friday August 16th. I’ll be interviewed by Brian Taylor, the BBC Scotland Political Editor, then Jonathan Watson (wee Frank) and others will be performing some of the Bob Servant Emails. More info and tickets (they on sale Friday 28th June at 8.30am) https://www.edbookfest.co.uk/the-festival/whats-on/neil-forsyth-2

I’m deliriously excited to have written a guest Oor Wullie strip for the Sunday Post. For a Dundonian writer it doesn’t get much bigger. You can see the strip here. Click Here For Wullie
Elliot Castro film news is, fingers crossed, slowly approaching. I have a new sitcom with the BBC at early development stage, I’m working on a couple of other tentative projects and San Carlos will be released on mass market paperback in June 2014.
I’m delighted with the response to Bob Servant Independent. The DVD is now available for pre-order, you can find out more on that here.

San Carlos will be released in mass market paperback in Spring 2013. Other People’s Moneyfilm development is back on track, more details to follow soon, and I am developing a new sitcom with the BBC, it’s at pilot stage just now.
The Bob Servant Emails BBC Radio 4 show can now be downloaded from Amazon.
My new novel San Carlos is out now. You can read more at the Books Page. Some kind reviews and I think the book looks brilliant.
We are filming more Bob Servant Independent in Scotland in September and the series will be broadcast on BBC4 sometime over the Winter, I’ll know in the next few weeks and update here. The first block of filming went very well and, as suspected, Broughty Ferry looks exactly like Miami on the screen. As well as Brian Cox and Jonathan Watson, we have had some brilliant actors involved including Shirley Henderson, Sanjeev Kohli, Greg McHugh, Rufus Jones, Pollyanna McIntosh, Derek Riddell and some of Dundee Rep’s ensemble.
Other People’s Money is now firmly back in film development, more details to follow on that also.
And I’m doing the Edinburgh Book Festival on Wednesday August 13th. Details here.
BBC Radio 4’s The Bob Servant Emails is now available for download. It can be purchased through iTunes either as a series or as individual episodes. And it’s available through Audible as a series here.
I’m delighted to confirm that Bob Servant is heading for TV as a BBC4 sitcom. Filming has started in Scotland and the series will be transmitted sometime around late 2012/early 2013. See www.bobservant.com for more information.
I have now handed in my second novel, San Carlos, which will be released by Random House in June. I will be updating the Books page soon with more information and it can be pre-ordered through Amazon. But in (very) short it’s a thriller set in Ibiza in 1989.
Other than that I’m working with the BBC on a TV project and separately on a tentative film project. Other People’s Money remains in the very early stages of film development.
I’m currently in the last stages of my second novel San Carlos, writing scripts for the BBC and helping flog Bob Servant to a bewildered British public. Read Bob’s Xmas message on the Foyle’s website. Some more extracts in the Sun and also from the Sun, Bob’s guide to Dundee. Merry Christmas.
Why Me? The Very Important Emails of Bob Servant is out now. The Scotsman says that Bob “has attained national treasure status”. He would undoubtedly agree with that. Read some extracts in the Guardian and the Independent, where the readers’ comments show a real groundswell of support for my work.
Why Me? The Very Important Emails of Bob Servant will be released around the first week of November. It’s the third Bob Servant book so that’s the trilogy. A Dundonian Lord of the Rings, as it will inevitably be called. You can read more about the book and pre-order through www.bobservant.com
Thanks for your emails on my BBC Radio 4 series The Bob Servant Emails. It will be available for download in October 2011 and I hope to have news on a second series soon.
Delete At Your Peril – The Bob Servant Emails and Why Me? The Very Important Emails of Bob Servant are both being recorded as Audio Books by AudioGo. Release planned for January 2012.
I have now finished my second novel which will be released by Random House in early summer 2012. More news later in the year.
Had a great time at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. My remaining book festival appearances this year are Moray, Nairn, Airdrie and Kilmarnock. Full details on www.bobservant.com
An update on Other People’s Money. After many adventures it is still very much in development as a feature film and we hope there will be more information soon. Elliot Castro is working in Glasgow as a DJ and advising various companies on fraud prevention.
